20 Feb

The Consulate General opened the exhibition of Botond Dávid, a photo artist on 20 February, 2020 at One Portland Street, Manchester (M1 3BE).

Botond Dávid Hungarian photographer is documenting traditional costumes from all over Europe and other continents. This exhibition presents Hungarian costumes from Transylvania. The selection of photos is entitled „Transylvania: A Beautiful Woman.” The motto is an inspiration from a famous Hungarian writer László Németh, who was born in Transylvania himself.

The exhibition is an expression of fashion and tradition at the same time, while it is also a manifestation of national unity across borders. Botond Dávid has innovated the traditional ethno-photography by his fashion style photos. His approach to co-opt fashion and tradition is an interpretation, which embraces past, present and future as well.

As an innovation hub for fashion and with a rich heritage in the textile industry, Manchester is the obvious place the exhibition should be displayed. There are 30-40 thousand Hungarians - many from Transylvania - living in Greater Manchester and the exhibition is part of our effort to help Mancunians understand their unique culture and in turn help Hungarians living here to preserve their identity and think about past and present inspired by these unique photographs.

The selection of photographs are on canvas stretched on wooden frame.

The exhibition is open until 13 March.
